Milan is located on the western edge of northern Illinois at the junction of the Mississippi and Rock Rivers. Founded in 1843, Milan is one of several villages and cities that make up the Quad-City Area. Rich in local history, this area was the home of Chief Blackhawk and his nation of Sac-Fox Indians. The first railroad bridge across the Mississippi River was located near Milan.

The 5,750 plus residents of Milan are proud of their heritage, the strong growth of the community and plans for the future. Milan is especially proud of its Community Center, which is used by people from all parts of the Quad Cities for wedding receptions, business meetings, Christmas parties, and many other types of functions.

There are seven parks in the Village of Milan, the largest being Camden. Camden Park, located near the Community Center off Highway 67 and the Milan Beltway, is the home of Milan Area Girls Softball. A complete playground and four shelters are available to the Public (one by reservation). The annual 3rd of July fireworks celebration is hosted here. A warm-up lodge is available during winter sledding activities. Dickson is the second largest park. Every Labor Day weekend, Milan’s Indian Summer Festival is held here. Little League baseball and the American Legion play their games at the Dickson Park ball diamond, as do many area schools. The remaining five parks located in various neighborhood locations are complete with shelters and playgrounds. Each year, the Milan Park and Recreation Department sponsors a four week summer parks program for youths between the ages of 5 and 10.

Rock Island/Milan School District has a wonderful diverse population of 6,500 students housed in 12 elementary schools, two junior high schools, one high school and one junior/senior high alternative school. Nearly 500 students are enrolled in the early-age childhood program through the Head Start Program. All schools are climate-controlled.

A professional 18-hole championship Frisbee disc golf course is situated in Milan that has an annual Ice Bowl on Superbowl Sunday. An annual Easter Egg Hunt with the Milan Lions Club is held the week before Easter. On July 3rd, an annual fireworks display at Camden Park is scheduled, as is a Tour of Lights on the 3rd Monday of each December.
